Website Traffic:What is it all about?

January 27, 2010 By: CarpetGuy Category: Traffic Exchange, Website Promotion

effort 300x280 Website Traffic:What is it all about?Today we find ourselves in an ever competitive world, every day, more and more people are turning to the internet to hunt for something, anything that can help them make a little more cash, but sadly, all they end up finding are get rich quick scams and rip-offs. Regretfully, traffic exchanges are by nature a promoter of this type of website.

Every webmaster wants to push their websites to the top of the ladder, and some will do this by hook or crook. No, I am not writing this to target anyone, but to make those that are unaware of the risks many of these websites bring.

There are sites with virus or spyware, sites that harvest email addresses so they may SPAM you to death. I do my best here to keep these risks down to a minimum, but, after they have been approved and activated, these things are added, so, they manage to slither past, but, if they stay in the rotation very long, there are mmany of our members out there that will report them and I WILL SUSPEND THEM!

Website traffic is a double edged sword, by promoting your site on a traffic exchange, you open yourself up to these SPAM and Malware sites that harvest your email address, or break the rotation to take you to a site in the quest of getting better Google or Alexa ratings, but, in actuality, many of these sites are not even taken seriously by the search engines, they are known SPAMMERS, and yes, traffic from a traffic exchange is SPAM traffic, when done in excess, I know, I used to have many sites on hundreds of exchanges, and yes, a few years ago, it did work, but not any more. Google looks at your site as a SPAMMER when it gets most of its page-views from traffic exchanges.

If, traffic exchanges are bad, why do I have one, you may be asking, because, if the traffic is of at least 30 seconds per visit, it is at least counted as a real visit, anything faster than that is not and will hurt your rating, if, it is even counted as a visit. This site was created to help “real” websites get exposure, not just traffic, unfortunately, to keep it all rolling, I have to allow some of the “other” sites, and I thank any and everyone that surfs here, and I give you my word, that the hit and run or sign-up and run members, will not get their sites activated. If you are a regular surfer, you know who you are, I do my best to keep your sites activated, I check at least once a day, if possible, but, I know, sometimes a site will be added after I have already checked, so it seems like two days, sorry about that.

My plea to you all is to keep the junk down to a minimum, I know that you have just recently signed up for some miracle website that is going to guarantee you whatever amount of money, good luck with that. I know that we all work very hard, and surfing is a pain in the butt, but, if you see a site that is interesting, take a closer look at it, there may be something there for you or someone you know. If you see a site, that you know is a scam, report it as such, I know, I got burned a couple of times myself, it happens, so, report it!

Getting traffic to a “real” website is my goal here, not to promote, or somehow endorse any of the “junk” sites that may end up in rotation here, so, be careful, think twice before you give up your money, or even an email address, it could be a bad decision.

Another important issue: If you take the time to sign-up and surf, ALLOCATE CREDITS to your sites, if not, I will delete them, if you can’t take the time, neither can I, so if you sign up, then come back and your account is gone, sorry, but I have to keep the “waiting” list clean for those that do, the list gets long, and trying to weed out those that have surf from those that have not is tough enough, and many of these that do get deleted, never even know it because they don’t come back.

URL Cloaking, if you cannot display the correct URL, DO NOT submit it!

May 26, 2009 By: CarpetGuy Category: Rules

cloaking 300x243 URL Cloaking, if you cannot display the correct URL, DO NOT submit it!There is a new problem showing up, URL cloaking, for those that do not know what that is, it is quite simply, hiding the real URL! Yes, there are sites that offer short URLs, like TinyURL.com, and, for some things this could be ok, but, with all of the virus and spyware out there, hidden or “cloaked” URLs are not acceptable on a traffic exchange. Now don’t get me wrong, TinyURL.com is not a bad site, in fact, if you use Twitter, you URLs could show up using that service, and TinyURL.com offers a “preview” feature, which will allow you to see the site, before you go there.

Anyway, I am not just talking about shortened URLs, I am talking about this new wave of “Flash Pages” and the like. Why are they so bad? SPAM! Yes, that and other potential spyware that is being added in these hidden URLs. Now, I know that most folks using these things, think it is just a cool way of advertising both, their site and the third party site, thus giving you more credit on another site, what you may not know, is these pages are adding dangerous tracking cookies and are hiding things that are potentially even worse!

I monitor this site, both by surfing many hours a day, and by checking each and every URL submitted, and, in the past, I had approved many of these sites, just out of ignorance I guess, but guess what, I started getting SPAM email from several new sources, and upon further investigation, I found that it was some of these “flash” or “landing” page sites, some using frames and such that allow a hidden site to pop-up randomly, much like a rotator, which is also not allowed. So, from now on, there is yet another new rule, NO HIDDEN URLs! If you cannot use the real URL of your domain, DON’T bother submitting it! I know there are several currently in rotation here, I am putting a bounty on them! If, you should find a suspect site, report it and if it is a bad site, you will get a bonus! If you are the submitter of these type of URLs, you may as well delete them, as I will be hunting them down and suspending them. Hey, don’t take it personal, you can submit the actual URL for your site, but, I HATE SPAM and those promoting it will be removed! Thanks for surfing!
